Offering play to disadvantaged children, and helping the environment…It’s all in a days work for this crew.
This past Friday, members of the MAC Aerospace team joined together with 1-800-GOT-JUNK of Chantilly and Second Chance Toys to sort and clean around 200 toys for local families in need.
According to Second Chance Toys website – their mission is two fold: Donate gently used plastic toys that would take up room in landfills and instead donate them to families in need. With nearly 14 million children in families living below the poverty line, the donation of gently used toys offers a way to provide for the children in a way that sometimes is overlooked. Basic motor skills, speech and language development, as well as emotional growth can all be attributed to play. By requesting used toys in good condition, Second Chance Toys is also doing their part to keep these non-biodegradable items out of our landfills.
The folks at 1-800-GOT-JUNK took on the main task of collection for this event and offered the work space for the project day of. Their staff had also combed through their job site loads to find any plastic toys that may fit the bill. MAC managed to collect a few toys and added to the spoils of the day, as well. The team of eight MAC employees arrived at 1-800-GOT-JUNK’s office on Friday, December 7th and spent two hours sorting, ensuring all toys included their pieces and cleaning, before re-bagging the toys to be delivered by the 1-800-GOT-JUNK team.
